South Shore of Kauai
November 30, 2006
Fall south swells in the islands can produce some fun surf. Here is a photo and story submitted by Kyle Cannon.

On the last day of a two week stay on the south shore of Kauai, a nice south swell made its way to poipu beach. I had a fresh 6'6 made there and waiting for me when I arrived. I had not ridden the board on the entire trip, because there were really no waves. I mainly surfed my 6'0 for most of the trip. On my last day there, I woke up to the sound of nice 5-7 ft. hawaiian sized waves. I was soooo excited. I waxed up my brand new Mike Wellman shaped 6'6 and paddled out at a break called Acid Drop. It was mostly locals out. Luckily I was there with a good friend of mine who lives on Kauai. There were probably 6 guys out the entire session. We surfed for about 4 hours in nice 5-7 ft. peelers. I got a couple of nice barrels and some really fast fun waves. I have been surfing my entire life, and I have been on numerous surf trips, but this session was one of the best I have ever had. Nice waves, brand new board, light off shore winds and only six guys in the water.
After our 4 hour session I ran back to the condo with enough time to shower and pack my boards up before we had to pack up and head to the air port. Unfortunatly that was only the first day of the swell, and I had to leave that day. When I arrived back home in San Diego, we had a nice solid week of SW swell. I got home from the airport at 8:00 am (red eye home) and went straigt to the beach to carve up some fun San Diego summer surf. Kauai is by far one of my favorite surf destinations!

Is that photo a shot of the day in the story? It looks like someone is trying to hide how good it really was. The photo and the story don't jive. Can you put up a photo of one of those 5 to 7 foot hawaiian waves or would some moke take it out on you?
Give the guy a break, if he is anything like most of us, he doesn't hang out on the beach and take photos when the waves are pumping, he passes the camera to his girl and takes to the water. The photo is what she happened to snap in between sunning herself and umbrella drinks.
...cool story, at least someone has a good story to tell from Hawaii without being chased from the water by locals
Too true, well it beats this
Does this work?

Hey point surf, send the photo to us at info@dsurf.com....I wasn't able to view it
Sorry buddy...but when I am on vacation with my girl and my family in Kauai I usually don't spend a whole lot of time taking pictures. My girl did take that pic from the window of our condo. That was actually the day before the swell when it wasn't quite as big, but the same surf spot.
